The Browser in the Expanded Field

This is an illustration I made many years ago, even before responsive websites existed! It might have been around 2014, and I -as many others- envisioned a future where the web would infiltrates every aspect of life.

The illustration’s title is a homage to Rosalind’s Krauss’s art theory essay “Sculpture in the Expanded Field”, and a nod to my past as a visual artist. I had the idea of the browser as a parallel with the Sculpture Rosalind Krauss is talking about, because both were mediums that transcended their boundaries—sculpture broke away from pedestals while the browser moved beyond its traditional browser-confines to integrate with objects (IoT), networks, and devices.
